On the off chance people hadn't already make the causal link between Kieran Hebdon's output as Four Tet and Fridge, and legendary drummer Steve Reid (think Sun Ra, James Brown, Miles Davis, Leon Thomas, Fela Kuti, Ornette Coleman...) - they've only gone and decided to record some improvised sessions and put them out through Domino. A pleasing epilogue to the live shows they collaborated on last year, 'The Exchange Session Vol. 1' could have been a platinum-plated ball-ache - as two esoteric musos try to outdo each other in the improv arena. However, thanks to the consummate skills of those involved, pieces like 'Morning Prayer and 'Soul Oscillations' are itchy coalitions of styles; with Reid's astonishing skin-dexterity the perfect backbone to Hebden's more meandering tracts. Peppered in horns, bass, guitars and a percussive buffet to sate the healthiest of appetites, 'The Exchange Volumes...' is a treat which will appeal to fans of the protagonists, Tzadik-heads and anyone who is happy to explore the outer-rim of improv. Exchange and Mart! |

"Shindara Jigoku is the fourth LP from Shinsuke Michishita's LSD-March. A slightly more contemplative affair than the blow to the senses that was their recent LP on HP Cycle. The line-up on this is once again Michishita (guitar, vocals) with Masami Kawaguchi (guitar) and Ikuro Takahashi (drums). Small vinyl only edition in a hand-screened cover with quail."
