Don’t worry about the unpronounceable album name –
it’s not the decaying spirit of IDM that hangs over
Kyrgyz, it has been taken from a country (Kyrgyzstan) and
it’s all above board, nothing to see here sir! Anyway,
on to the more important stuff – this is another release
from the hot Digitalis label and sees some of the finest exponents
of the psyche/folk/avant/weirdness scene get together for
a kind of spiritual love-in. Loren Chasse is one of the lynchpins
of the Jewelled Antler collective and as a member of Thuja,
The Blithe Sons, The Franciscan Hobbies and many many more
projects has created some of the most important records the
scene has belched out. Kyrgyz sees him collaborating with
Tom Carter of Charalambides, the avant-pscyh-blues worriers
known throughout the world for releasing some of the oddest
records Kranky have ever put their name to (and being barely
pronounceable for the non-Greek masses), Christine Boepple
of the Skygreen Leopards and Robert Horton. Phew, that was
a mouthful, but the album’s worth it, please bear with
me through all the technicalities! Six epic tracks are featured
here containing the most spiritual sounds I’ve heard
for some time, and this is an ear-bending collaboration which
plays on the strengths of all the members perfectly. Tom Carter’s
guitar manipulation is here in full squealing effect and Loren
Chasse’s patented Jewelled Antler philosophy has been
tapped into dutifully, and has the record sounding like it
was recorded in a Middle Eastern prison using any available
instruments or sounds. This is another fantastic album for
anyone with an inkling towards the more unusual end of the
psych/folk spectrum and any carefree traveller already addicted
to the Jewelled Antler way of life should snap this up without
any further ado. |

***Durtro Jnana is delighted to make available again one of C93's most popular and enduring albums, Thunder Perfect Mind. The cover and booklet include the original artwork, which is somewhat amended with a new and contemporary photograph of David Late Tibet's face on the digifile cover; a Louis Wain cat on the cover of the booklet different from the Louis Wain cat which replaced Tibet's face on the previous second edition; photos newly reproduced from the original negatives; new Kalki artwork; and the texts to all the tracks in a full-color 28-page booklet.
Disc one consists of the studio album itself. All tracks have been remastered from the original tapes. Disc two contains all the studio out-takes from the TPM sessions, previously available as tracks on the Emblems and Calling for Vanished Faces compilations, as well as one previously unreleased, though very short, a capella piece that was left off the TPM studio album, "Red House." After a 10-second silence, live versions of songs from TPM that were previously available on the As the World Disappears? live CD (which is now deleted) are added. Once again, all tracks have been remastered from the original tapes.
