This is the highly-anticipated fifth full-length JOMF release, their first in three years. Jackie-O Motherfucker was formed in 1994 by Tom Greenwood and Nester Bucket layering guitars and sax over hand-cut analog tape loops and collage, collections of found sound, field recordings, cut-up classic rock, hip-hop beats and 4-tracked drones. Assembled and processed, the band rehearsed often in the basement of an abandoned drug store on Mississippi St. in North Portland. The first live performances featured an amplified reel-to-reel tape machine and electric guitar while additions of live percussion, 8-track tapes, alto sax, and a turntable filled out the sound. After a US/European tour in the late summer of 2003 the East Coast configuration of JOMF temporarily dissolved, with members returning to Brooklyn and Montreal. The group re-assembled in Portland and recording sessions began for Flags of the Sacred Harp. Honey Owens returned to working with the group again, having departed after Fig. 5 to work with her other group Nudge. The new configuration also includes guitarist Adam Forkner (Yumi Bitsu, Whiterainbow, Devendra Banhart). Over a year in the making, Flags of the Sacred Harp displays the group's patient and evolved songwriting style with historic references to American blues and hymns. One of the most focused and sublime releases from Jackie-O Motherfucker, the release contains songs that are all manifestations, mutations and re-interpretations of old blues and gospel, specifically from an old hymnal called "The Sacred Harp." Three lush, beautiful vocal arrangements on each side of a 17-minute soaring instrumental making a total of 7 songs unfolding over 70+ minutes. Flags of the Sacred Harp is an epic recording documenting the group's maturing skills in writing, arranging and production and is a timeless de-construction of American music. |

"All killer-no filler follow-up to 2003's Wonderful Rainbow, Hypermagic Mountain slams into hyperdrive for a full 60-minute ride. The songs are dense and constructed from an intense three week recording session in a psychic sweatbox. The band has blurred differences to any other sound pirates with a primal base and new musical vocabulary fueled by chemistry altering volume and SONGS! Throbbing low end played on a 300-foot long bass and kick drums the size of Exxon supertankers, all stretched into a triumphant war stomp all walks can love. With just bass and drums (a two piece band you see) they have constructed the densest sound imaginable..." |

"Fuck Work" has been obtained through the advanced yet surprisingly vivid distillation of several avant-garde music aesthetics, including electronica, post-rock, turntablism, noise and electroacoustic improv. Instruments and machines blend together into a multi-hued soundscape that entices the listener to dive in and immerse himself/herself into the listening experience. You might detect influences as varied as AMM, Gastr del Sol and Pan Sonic, alongside Giuseppe Ielasi and the recent Italian quiet improv scene. The five pieces found on this CD were first composed in the studio, before being deconstructed during live improvised sets and finally reconstructed back in the studio, keeping only the elements deemed crucial. The resulting album is unfailingly magnificent, from first second to last.
Italian multi-instrumentalists MICHELE SCARIOT and EMANUELE BORTOLUZZI formed ENT in the end of 2000, shortly after they first met. One of their first tracks was selected by the widely renowned Fat Cat label for inclusion on its website in 2001. The duo has self-released a few demos and contributed tracks to a number of compilations released by labels such as Ojo de Apolo (Chile), Saag (Japan), Giardini Sonori (Italy) and Baskaru (France), in addition to a few collaborations with net labels (Tu Mp3, Homemade Avantgarde). ENT has performed live throughout Italy and in France (Batofar).
Crowning five years of intensive artistic research, "Fuck Work" is ENT's official full-length debut. It is being released by the young French label Baskaru, recently involved in the production of fine releases, such as "Pirandelo Suona" (with the Italian label DSP-Recordings) and "35 Mutant Seconds: A Tribute to Rafael Toral" (with the Portuguese label Grain of Sound).

"Kensington Blues, the fourth full-length release from Jack Rose, is an inspired mix of styles and sounds that brings his in-person steel string guitar mastery down to CD scale. This is Rose's most diverse outing by far, with straight ragtime, heavy 12-string, and that sweet, sweet Weissenborn lap guitar all checking in. Honed during endless touring in 2004, the repertoire here is delivered with maximum authority in a series of first-take performances recorded in early 2005." FORCED EXPOSURE |

***In July 2003, SMEGMA celebrated their 30th anniversary as a musical collective with a series of concerts featuring STOOGES saxman STEVE MACKAY. These landmark noise spectacles were highly praised, most notably the exceptional performance at The Derby in Hollywood. At the end of the year, the set was recreated in Smegma's legendary Portland, Oregon, studio and painstakingly mixed and manipulated over the course of several months. From their mid-'70s work in the LOS ANGELES FREE MUSIC SOCIETY up through last year's critically exalted collaboration album with Wolf Eyes, Smegma's influential free honk'n'gibber is like no other. |

Soliloquy For Lilith, Nurse With Wound's best selling work... like Sylvie and Babs, is a one-off in the Nurse discography. Originally comprised of six songs for Stapleton's daughter, one on each side of the 3xLP set, the music... is... haunting and otherworldly... and sits head and shoulders above any other ambient or drone work at that time. Created though a chance meeting between a series of guitar FX pedals which generated strange tones and voices that seem to emerge from the ether... almost subterranean or oceanic in feel, the long, twenty-minute-plus tracks take meditative music into a new strata. That's not to say this isn't good for active listening, on the contrary when given full attention the tracks seem to evolve and precipitate more aural wonders with each listen.... --Kavenism.com
